Already in his youth, Robert Schumann experienced sudden changing emotions,
" now shouting
in triumph, now sunk in despair," surrendered to the ups and downs between euphoria and depression.
He is withdrawn and taciturn,
introverted and shy.

Yet in music, just as in the written word - Robert Schumann was doubly gifted in both music and literature - he was able to communicte fluently
to his environment.

Composing became therapeutic for him, by transforming psychological activity
and inner
voices into music. Music that in its complex daring, strong emotionality, its richness of melody and sounds, practically effervesces from the unconscious.
