THOMAS ALBERTUS IRNBERGER

The son of a doctor and a music pedagogue was born 1985 in Salzburg. He began taking violin lessons at the age of seven and piano lessons one year later.  Due to its noticeably early talent, by the age of nine Irnberger was accepted as an exceptional student at the university Mozarteum in the class for the highly talented. Further studies led him to Bruckner university and Josef Sabaini in Linz, where he received his master’s degree with distinction and abroad to the violin legend Ivry Gitlis in Paris. He also received important artistic impulses from Mauricio Fuks, Yair Kless, Alberto Lysy, Igor Oistrach, Dmitry Sitkovetsky and Grigory Zhislin. Thomas Albertus Irnberger´s participation in numerous competitions at home and abroad as a soloist as well as a chamber musician brought him a total of sixteen first prizes. He was also awarded a special prize for his Paganini interpretations and for the interpretation of contemporary works.

His special passion is for the works of Johann Sebastian Bach whose Double Concerto for Violin and Oboe he played already at the age of twelve with the Arcata Stuttgart under Patrick Strub and the Ensemble CIS under Jürgen Geise, as well as the works of Viennese Classicism.
At the age of fifteen he celebrated his sensational debut with the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra at the Palais des Beaux Arts in
Brussels as a soloist in Tschaikovsky’s Violin Concerto. Thomas Albertus Irnberger has since performed in concert in numerous cultural metropolises in Europe and has been a guest at renowned international festivals. His debut CD was released by Pan Classics when he was seventeen and contained works by Hindemith, Debussy, Enescu, Paganini, Kreisler, Fauré and Elgar, for which he received excellent critiques from the specialist press in which his “brillant technical ability combined with mature creative power and tonal refinement“ as well as his “distinct tonal colours” and “assured feeling for style” were emphasized.

At an early age, Thomas Albertus Irnberger had already acquired an excellent international reputation as a soloist in the great violin concertos. Artistic cooperation connects him to the well known Austrian “Harmonices mundi” orchestra under Josef Sabaini and the orchestra “Spirit of Europe“. With the latter he recorded Robert Schumann´s violin concerto as well as his cello concerto in an adaptation for violin. Both recordings received excellent reviews in the English string magazine “The Strad”. Especially stimulating for Thomas Albertus Irnberger was his cooperation with the great pianist Jörg Demus who kindled his love for the historic keyboard instruments and their fascinating tonal beauty. With him he realised a recording with works by W.A. Mozart, nominated for the Amadeus Classic Award, followed by the recording of all works for violin and piano by Schubert and Schumann.

Two recordings with Paul Badura-Skoda were dedicated to Mozart´s sonatas for violin and piano. Thomas Albertus Irnberger focussed on recording less well-known music of the Romantic respectively fin de siècle period with the pianists Edoardo Torbianelli and Evgeny Sinaisky.

As a singer Thomas Albertus Irnberger made his debut at the Salzburg Castle Concerts with arias by W.A.Mozart in the summer of 2009.
